One of our Cedar Rapids area clients came to us with a large interior design request. They were looking for help selecting new paint colors, lighting, kitchen finishes, and layout updates for their kitchen and great room remodel. They had several inspiration images but needed help turning their design aspirations into reality.

We started their interior design plan by reviewing all of their supplied Pinterest images. From there, we came up with a plan to incorporate their desired design details into the footprint of their existing home.

We love how the warmth in this natural stone mosaic backsplash compliments the warm brushed bronze pot filler and the white oak elements on the hood and island.

Other updates to this space included new carpet and a white oak handrail to carry the warm neutral tones up the stairwell, as well as a new area rug and hand-rubbed antique brass dining room light fixture to tie together the warm tones from the kitchen with the color scheme in the adjacent living room.

The interior design team also redesigned the clients’ living room fireplace surround to provide a clean-lined design with a white oak mantle that was a better fit with the kitchen design.

The clients also requested a fireplace design that included enclosed, rather than open, storage. More substantial painted wood trim was added around the windows flanking the fireplace to make them feel larger. A fine-textured grasscloth was applied to the upper portion of the fireplace surround and above the built-ins to bring some added warmth and texture to the room.

The door leading into the piano room was changed from black to a warm gray, and the piano room light fixture was switched out to a larger flush mount fixture to better fit the size and style of the room.
